Accelerated IFR Course
Deep Sky Flight Training offers an accelerated IFR flight training program designed to help pilots earn their instrument rating in as little as two months. With training available in Phoenix, Glendale, and Mesa, this comprehensive course combines focused flight instruction with individualized support from experienced CFII instructors. Using a structured curriculum and real-world scenarios, students gain the skills and confidence needed to operate safely in instrument meteorological conditions. Timeline
This course consists of three progressive phases using a mix of simulator and aircraft-based training. Students will receive scenario-based instruction, culminating in a comprehensive check ride preparation phase.
Total Time ~ 55 Hours [2 Months] (33.0 flight | 14.0 simulator | 8.0 ground briefing integrated)
Phase 1: Basic Instrument Flying [2 Weeks] Lessons 1-6 (12 hours)
Phase 2: Holding and Approaches [2 Weeks] Lessons 7-14 (16 hours)
Phase 3: Cross-Country and Practical Application [4 Weeks] Lessons 15-24 (19 hours)


IFR Requirements
Minimum Hour Requirements
50 Hours of Cross-Country PIC Flight Time
10 Hours must be in Airplane
40 Hours Instrument Flight Time (Simulated or Actual)
15 Hours with a CFII
One Cross-Country Flight
250 Nautical Miles along airways or directed by ATC routing
An instrument approach at each airport
3 different kinds of approaches using navigation systems
With a filed IFR flight plan
3 Hours of Instrument Flight Training in the Last 2 Calendar Months
Maximum Simulator Time
Use of approved full flight simulator or FTD, if trained by authorized instructor:
Max. 30 hours if instrument time completed under Part 142
Max 20 hours if not completed under 142
Use of FAA approved Aviation Training Device, if trained by an authorized instructor:
Max.10 hours of instrument time if Basic ATD
Max. 20 hours of instrument time if Advanced ATD
No more than 20 hours of total instrument time can be credited in a full flight simulator, FTD or ATD, except the 30 hours exception under Part 142 mentioned above.
